OZ Lifting Launches Aluma-Lite Davit Crane

Winona, Minnesota-based OZ Lifting Products LLC has launched the Aluma-Lite series of ultra-portable davit cranes, available in 500 lbs. and 1,000 lbs. capacities.

The new aluminum series is targeted at applications where portability is beneficial, including those in wastewater and water; boats; utility terrain vehicles (UTVs), and other trucks, etc, where anti-corrosion materials are also desirable. Each model is available with three bases: pedestal, socket (flush-mount), or wall-mount.

The Aluma-Lite 500 weighs in at 24 lbs. It offers capacity of 275 lbs. at horizontal; 330 lbs. at 22.5 degrees; and its full capacity at 45 degrees. Aluma-Lite 1,000, meanwhile, weighs in at 47 lbs. It offers capacity of 550 lbs. at horizontal; 650 lbs. at 22.5 degrees; and its full capacity at 45 degrees. The units’ light weight means that they will commonly be moved from one base to another.

Both fold flat for easy storage or transportation; are made of aerospace / military grade aluminum; and are available with manual winch (including drill drive adapter), AC or DC electric winches. Further, they have a durable, powder coated finish; no tools are needed for assembly / disassembly; and they are made in the USA.

Steve Napieralski, president at OZ Lifting, said: “The Aluma-Lite can be used any place where carrying the crane could be an issue and the properties of aluminum happen to suit the product to many applications where it might be moved around, perhaps most notably in the water sectors. Our 500-lbs. capacity steel davit weighs 50 lbs., so the aluminum version is basically half the weight.”

As Napieralski mentioned, the Aluma-Lite expands OZ Lifting’s davit crane family, which includes the Tele-Pro, that allows users to leverage the benefits of other lifting technologies in its range, while telescoping the boom in and out under load; various composite models, made from carbon fiber and pultruded fiberglass; and steel davits.

The Aluma-Lite capacity range may be widened in time but there are no immediate plans to do so. However, Napieralski admitted that it will continue to add to the davit crane family more broadly. “We have another [crane] on the horizon that will add some additional features not found in our current range,” he said.

He also reiterated that, regardless of type of crane or application, without a base, a davit crane is not usable. The pedestal base is bolted to the floor where users need to make a lift and move the crane from base to base. Socket bases are used mainly in the back of trucks or in an area where the installer will pour cement around the base to keep the surface area flat and offer high mounting strength. The wall-mount base allows a davit crane to be attached to the wall of a facility to save floorspace. In all cases, it is important to check the capacity of the mount and its compatibility with the crane/s selected.

Aluma-Lite will make its trade show debut at AHR Expo (Booth B128), which attracts heating, ventilation, air-conditioning, and refrigeration (HVACR) professionals to the Georgia World Congress Center, Atlanta, February 6-8, 2023. A month or so later (March 20-23), ProMat (Booth S122) engages all segments of the material handling, logistics and transportation industry, from traditional, manual equipment to computerized, automated systems and smart, connected supply chain technologies.

Napieralski added: “Business continues to be strong; we are optimistic for 2023.”

OZ Lifting at HVACR Show

OZ Lifting will show a variety of davit cranes at AHR Expo, which takes place February 6-8, 2023 at the Georgia World Congress Center, Atlanta. The Winona, Minnesota-based manufacturer will exhibit at Booth B128.

The company will showcase its full range of davits for the first time at an expo that attracts a delegation of heating, ventilation, air-conditioning, and refrigeration (HVACR) professionals. The centerpiece of the 10 ft. by 15 ft. booth will be its new Aluma-Lite davit crane.

The ultra-portable davit is available in 500 lbs. and 1,000 lbs. capacities, each available with three bases: pedestal, socket (flush-mount), or wall-mount. The Aluma-Lite 500 weighs in at 24 lbs. with a maximum capacity of 500lbs. Aluma-Lite 1,000, meanwhile, weighs in at 47 lbs. with a maximum capacity of 1,000lbs.

Both fold flat for easy storage or transportation; are made of aerospace / military grade aluminum; and are available with manual winch (including drill drive adapter), AC or DC electric winches. Further, they boast a durable, powder coated finish; no tools are needed for assembly / disassembly.

The Tele-Pro davit crane will also feature. The patented model allows users to leverage the benefits of other lifting technologies in its range, while telescoping the boom in and out under load. The CompOZite and CompOZite Elite carbon fiber models will also be of interest to HVACR professionals, as will the recently designed long reach davits.

Steve Napieralski, president at OZ Lifting, said: “As we sell through a distributor network, it isn’t always easy to know about every application that our davits are involved with. However, we do recognize that our cranes get mounted on trucks and rooftops, where they lift chillers, filters, motors, and more. The properties of our new Aluma-Lite will be of interest, while our lever and chain hoists are perfect for a multitude of HVACR applications.”

Attendees will also be able to see several stainless steel products, designed for use in corrosive environments, including hoists, beam clamps, trolleys, and a manual winch that boasts a drill-adaptor feature. Spark-resistant hoists and trolleys will be of interest too.

The AHR Expo is the essential event for HVACR professionals, attracting the most comprehensive gathering of the industry from around the globe each year. The show provides a unique forum where manufacturers and suppliers of all sizes and specialties come together to share ideas and showcase the future of HVACR technology.

Among OZ Lifting’s representation will be Napieralski and area representative, Mark Walpole.

OZ Lifting Unveils ProMat Showcase

OZ Lifting will show a variety of davit cranes, hoists, and lifting components at ProMat, which takes place March 20-23, 2023 at Chicago’s McCormick Place. The company will exhibit at Booth S122.

The Winona, Minnesota-based manufacturer, which will take a 10 ft. by 15 ft. booth, will show its new Aluma-Lite davit crane for the first time at ProMat. The ultra-portable davit crane is available in 500 lbs. and 1,000 lbs. capacities, each available with three bases: pedestal, socket (flush-mount), or wall-mount.

The Tele-Pro davit crane will again be on the exhibit. The patented model allows users to leverage the benefits of other lifting technologies in its range, while telescoping the boom in and out under load. The CompOZite and CompOZite Elite carbon fiber models will also be on show, as will the recently launched Longreach davits.

However, OZ Lifting is more than a davit crane manufacturer, and its showcase will also feature several stainless steel products, designed for use in corrosive environments, including hoists, beam clamps, trolleys, and a manual winch that boasts a drill-adaptor feature. Spark-resistant hoists and trolleys will be of interest to exhibitors too.

Steve Napieralski, president at OZ Lifting, said: “As with all products in our range, the new davit cranes fill voids in the material handling marketplace. As such, we expect the [Aluma-Lite and Longreach] davits to be especially popular, but our composite products always seem to attract attention. MHI-sponsored shows have become an integral part of our annual exhibition strategy. Business is still very good, and we have several new products that will launch next year.”

ProMat features over 900 exhibits from leading solution providers and a comprehensive educational conference of over 150 sessions focusing on best-in-class solutions for manufacturing and supply chain operations. Exhibits will represent all segments of the material handling, logistics and transportation industry, from traditional, manual equipment to computerized, automated systems and smart, connected supply chain technologies.

Napieralski added: “Having that many exhibitors should draw a lot of attendees and Chicago being a central location should help as well. The cons, however, are you can get lost in the maze of exhibitors. We plan on getting the word out that we will be exhibiting and will be inviting a lot of distributors. The educational sessions are good for the industry. Anytime you can offer learning, those attending are there for a reason. They will gain a new concept or learn something new that helps their business.”

OZ Lifting Adds Lever Hoists

OZ Lifting has expanded its industrial lever hoist range with 6- and 9-ton capacity versions.

Previously, the Winona, Minnesota-based manufacturer offered 0.25- to 3-ton capacity models, but the relaunched range will include 0.25-, 0.75, 1.5-, 3-, 6-, and 9-ton capacity versions. This closely matches the company’s premium (overload protected) and dynamometer-equipped (Dyno-Hoist) lever hoist lines.

OZ Lifting’s new 6-ton capacity industrial lever hoist.

While the premium line of lever hoists is, and will likely remain, the most popular of these manual hoist options, it is important to cover the breadth of applications that place specific demands on this type of product.

The industrial line of lever hoists will always be a good choice if users already know the weight of the load. The premium line, meanwhile, is based on the same hoist but has overload protection. This has proved useful if the load weight is unknown, as the overload protection will activate at approximately 50% above the load rating. Dyno-Hoist, which eliminates the need for a separate shackle, dynamometer, and hoist, is the most technologically advanced of the range.

Steve Napieralski, president at OZ Lifting, said: “We are confident that expanding the industrial line to match the other two products will give distributors and their end customers all the capacities and technology options they need. As such, we do not anticipate expanding the range in the foreseeable future.”

The new industrial lever hoist range retains the features for which it has become renowned, including all-steel construction; 100% load-tested Grade 80 alloy chain; fully-enclosed gearing; long-lasting powder-coat finish; load sheave bearings; and more. Napieralski also pointed to the steel handle with rubber grip; forged alloy steel hooks; minimal load lifting effort; and heavy-duty latches. Custom options remain available.

Napieralski added: “There is still a big market for manual lifting products that don’t include overload devices or dynamometers. An end user might make a purchasing decision based on budget or application nuances—or maybe a little bit of both—but they will likely already know the weight of their load, meaning a dyno[mometer] is a completely redundant addition.”

The new 6-, and 9-ton capacity versions are already in stock and available for delivery.

“Business is excellent,” added Napieralski. “We have seen significant growth in all our product offerings.

Troy Zerveskes recently refurbished a 30ft Luhrs Express Fishing Boat, which is now docked in Newington, New Hampshire. As part of the overhaul, he invested in a steel davit crane from Winona, Minnesota-based OZ Lifting Products.

“I wanted to have both a life raft and a dinghy onboard for additional safety as well as to explore some of the amazing islands we have,” said Zerveskes. “The steel crane from OZ Lifting Products was the most cost-effective option based on the budget we had.

“I use the davit to lift the dinghy onto the hardtop of my boat and it has worked really well so far. It allows me to have the additional safety and function that I need at a reasonable expense.”

Made in the USA, steel davit cranes from OZ Lifting Products have 360-degree rotation, four different boom height adjustments, and are available in multiple weight ratings from 500 lbs. to 2,500 lbs. They have an ROHS-compliant, zinc-plated finish and AC or DC winch options. The winch with brake includes a power drill adapter.

Davit cranes are typically more portable, versatile, and cost-effective than jib cranes. OZ Lifting Products manufactures steel and composite davit cranes for a wide range of industries and applications, including marine, oil and gas, and aviation, as well as construction, logistics, and transportation.

Zerveskes procured his steel davit crane through an authorized OZ dealer. It was ordered with a pedestal base, mounted with heavy duty bolts, but is also commonly used with a wall and socket mount, depending on the application. “The crane easily goes in and out of the base,” said Zerveskes. “Size and portability made the davit crane my preferred option. In the summer, I use it every week.”

Richard Miller, sales manager at OZ Lifting Products, said: “Our composite range of cranes might be more typically associated with the nautical and marine sectors, where they are often used to lift small sailing craft, jet skis, PWCs [personal watercrafts], etc., but this application serves as a good example of how diverse our steel davit cranes can be.”

OZ Lifting Products manufactures a wide range of hoists, winches, and davit cranes, as well as fall protection equipment, plus beam trolleys and clamps. Its products have provided safe lifting solutions in demanding applications for over 15 years, meeting or exceeding ASME, ANSI, OSHA, and other recognized standards.
